What it means
The control module monitors the generator’s U, V, and W phase circuits for an open or interrupted electrical path. It sets this code when it detects that one or more phase circuits are not conducting as expected.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The generator uses U, V, and W phase circuits to transfer power between the generator and inverter. The control module monitors those phase paths and sets P0E0C when one or more is open or interrupted, such as from a broken conductor, an open winding, or a terminal pushed out of its connector.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Open phase wire
- Open generator winding
- Pin pushed back out of connector body
Symptoms
- Hybrid/EV system warning light may turn on
- Reduced power or charging performance
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and scan for related generator and inverter codes to identify the conditions when phase continuity was lost.
- Inspect accessible U, V, and W phase connectors for loose locks, pushed-back pins, damage, or signs of heat or moisture, following the high-voltage safety procedure.
- Check the three phase harnesses for physical damage or interrupted connections, comparing U, V, and W routing and connector seating.
- With the high-voltage system isolated according to the manufacturer's procedure, test each phase path for continuity and compare results with the manufacturer's specification.
- If the harness and connectors pass, test the generator windings and inverter phase connections to locate an internal open.
Common fixes
- Reseat a connector and secure any terminal that has backed out.
- Repair or replace an open U, V, or W phase harness section.
- Repair a damaged phase connector or terminal.
- Repair or replace a generator with a confirmed open winding.
Can I keep driving?
Do not continue driving if propulsion is reduced or unpredictable; arrange a safe stop and recovery if needed. An open generator phase can leave the vehicle with restricted or unavailable hybrid power.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
