OBD-II fault code

P0E0D: Generator Phase U-V-W Circuit Low

What it means

The control module monitors the electrical signals on the generator’s U, V, and W phase circuits. It sets this code when a phase signal falls below the expected range.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The generator's U, V, and W phase circuits carry power between the generator and inverter, which monitors their electrical signals. P0E0D sets when a phase signal is below the expected range; possible causes include a phase wire shorted to ground, a low-side inverter switch fault, or poor connector contact.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Phase wire shorted to ground
  2. Low-side switch open in inverter
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • Hybrid/EV system warning light may turn on
  • Reduced power or charging performance

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and scan for other inverter or phase codes to see when the low phase signal occurred.
  2. Use live data, where available, to compare U, V, and W phase behavior and identify whether the low condition is isolated or affects multiple phases.
  3. Following the high-voltage safety procedure, inspect all three phase connectors and harnesses for damage, loose or corroded terminals, and wiring contact with ground.
  4. With the high-voltage system isolated as specified by the manufacturer, check the U, V, and W phase wiring for shorts to ground and test connector contact quality.
  5. If the phase wiring passes, have the inverter low-side switching path and generator phase circuits tested against the manufacturer's procedure and specifications.

Common fixes

  • Repair a phase wire shorted to ground.
  • Clean or repair corroded, loose, or damaged phase connector terminals.
  • Repair a damaged U, V, or W phase harness.
  • Repair or replace the inverter if testing confirms a failed low-side switch.

Can I keep driving?

Limit driving if the vehicle has reduced power or charging, and stop safely if propulsion becomes unreliable. The hybrid system may further restrict operation to protect the generator and inverter.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
