What it means
The generator phase V current sensor circuit signal is below the expected range.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The generator’s phase V current sensor measures current in the V phase of the hybrid motor-generator. The hybrid control module sets P0E06 when the phase V sensor signal falls below its expected range, indicating a possible signal short to ground, sensor short, or poor connector contact.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Internal sensor short
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Hybrid/EV system warning light on
- Reduced power or altered hybrid operation
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and compare the phase V sensor reading with phases U and other generator data to confirm the low signal is specific to phase V.
- Inspect the phase V sensor connector and wiring for corrosion, pin damage, or insulation rubbed through against ground.
- Check connector contact condition and verify the phase V sensor’s power and ground connections using the wiring diagram.
- With the circuit safely isolated as directed by service information, test the phase V signal wire for a short to ground and check continuity to the module.
- Test the phase V sensor output against the manufacturer’s specification to distinguish a sensor short from a wiring fault.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure corroded or loose phase V sensor connector pins.
- Repair the phase V signal wire if it is shorted to ground or damaged.
- Replace the generator phase V current sensor if its internal signal is shorted.
- Clear the code and verify phase V current data during system operation.
Can I keep driving?
The hybrid system may reduce power or alter generator operation because it cannot trust the phase V reading. Drive gently and stop safely if power becomes severely limited or a hybrid warning instructs you to stop.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
