OBD-II fault code

P0C35: Hybrid/EV Battery Temperature Sensor F Circuit Low

What it means

The hybrid/EV battery temperature sensor F circuit signal is lower than expected.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Temperature sensor F is part of the hybrid/EV battery temperature monitoring system. The control module monitors the sensor F circuit voltage, and P0C35 sets when that signal falls below its expected electrical range. A low circuit reading can result from a short to ground or a sensor or connection fault and does not by itself prove the battery is cold.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Short to ground in the sensor circuit
  2. Faulty temperature sensor
  3. Poor connector connection

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced power output or limp mode
  • Charging may fail or be slowed
  • Reduced electric range

How to diagnose it

  1. Check freeze-frame data and sensor F live data to determine whether the low reading is constant or occurred under particular conditions.
  2. Inspect sensor F's connector and harness for corrosion, pin damage, chafing, or contact with ground.
  3. Using the wiring diagram, check sensor F's signal circuit for a short to ground and inspect its connections.
  4. Test sensor F and circuit continuity according to the manufacturer's procedures and specifications.
  5. Repair the short or connection fault, or replace sensor F if it fails testing, then verify the signal returns to a plausible value.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure the sensor F connector; repair damaged terminals.
  • Repair sensor F wiring shorted to ground.
  • Replace sensor F if it fails the specified test.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid rapid charging and heavy battery use until the low signal is diagnosed, since the control system may limit power or charging to protect the pack. Stop safely if a battery warning or pronounced power reduction appears.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
