What it means
The hybrid/EV battery temperature sensor F circuit has a fault, so its reading may be unreliable.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Temperature sensor F is one of the sensors the hybrid/EV control system uses to monitor traction-battery temperature. The module checks the electrical circuit carrying sensor F's signal. P0C33 sets when that circuit has a fault that makes the reading unreliable, without specifying whether the signal is low or high.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Faulty temperature sensor
- Open or shorted wiring
- Poor connector connection
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and compare sensor F's live reading with the other battery temperature sensors after the vehicle has been sitting at a stable temperature.
- Inspect the sensor F connector and nearby harness for looseness, corrosion, pin damage, or chafing.
- Check the sensor F circuit for opens or shorts using the manufacturer's wiring diagram and procedures.
- Test sensor F and its circuit at the connector, comparing results with the manufacturer's specifications.
- Repair the identified connection, wiring, or sensor fault, then confirm sensor F reads plausibly and the code does not return.
Common fixes
- Secure and clean the sensor F connector, repairing damaged terminals as needed.
- Repair an open or short in the sensor F wiring.
- Replace temperature sensor F if it fails the specified test.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid rapid charging and heavy demand until the battery temperature monitoring fault is repaired, because the vehicle may limit power or charging without a reliable reading from sensor F. Stop safely if a battery temperature warning or severe power reduction occurs.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
