What it means
The ECM detects a circuit low fault on the hybrid/ev battery temperature sensor b circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Battery temperature sensor B measures temperature at its monitored point in the hybrid/EV battery pack, and the control module uses the reading to manage battery operation. P0AC7 sets when the sensor B circuit signal is below the expected range, which can make the reported temperature unusable.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Internal sensor short
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and scan for other battery-temperature or sensor-circuit codes that may identify a shared circuit problem.
- Review sensor B live data and compare it with other battery temperature readings to confirm whether the signal is persistently low or implausible.
- With the vehicle safely powered down according to service information, inspect sensor B's connector and wiring for damage, corrosion, or a signal wire shorted to ground.
- Test the sensor B signal circuit for a short to ground and check its reference and ground connections using the manufacturer's wiring information.
- If wiring and connectors pass inspection, test sensor B and the control module input using the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure corroded or loose sensor B connector pins.
- Repair a sensor B signal wire shorted to ground or damaged harness section.
- Replace battery temperature sensor B if testing confirms an internal short.
- Repair a verified reference, ground, or battery control module input fault.
Can I keep driving?
Limit heavy driving and charging if the hybrid warning is on or the vehicle has reduced power, since the system may restrict battery use with an unreliable sensor B reading. Stop if the vehicle displays an overheating warning.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
