What it means
The BMS detects a circuit range/performance fault on voltage sense channel F of the high-voltage battery. Cell-group voltage measurement is unreliable on this channel.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The BMS checks whether voltage-sense channel F reports a plausible cell-group voltage within its expected range. This code sets when the channel F signal's range or performance is incorrect, which can result from resistance, an open, or a short in the circuit.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Open, short, or excessive resistance in voltage-sense wiring
- Loose, damaged, or corroded connector
- Fault in the battery voltage-sensing or control circuitry
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and compare channel F live readings with neighboring cell groups to see when the measurement becomes implausible.
- Inspect accessible channel F wiring and connectors for corrosion, looseness, abrasion, pinching, or other damage that may affect the signal.
- With the vehicle shut down as specified by the manufacturer, have a qualified technician test channel F for opens, shorts, and excessive resistance using the manufacturer's procedure.
- Compare the channel F signal at the battery sensing module with scan-tool data to identify a wiring or connection voltage discrepancy.
- If channel F wiring and connections meet the manufacturer's specification, assess the voltage-sensing or control circuitry for an internal fault.
Common fixes
- Secure or clean a poor channel F connection.
- Repair channel F wiring with excessive resistance or physical damage.
- Replace damaged channel F connector terminals or harness sections.
- Repair or replace the voltage-sensing or control circuitry if channel F remains out of range with a sound circuit.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid relying on full electric power or normal charging until channel F is diagnosed, especially if the vehicle has reduced power. Continued operation may lead the BMS to impose stronger limits because it cannot validate that cell-group voltage.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
