OBD-II fault code

P0AC3: Hybrid/EV Battery Pack Current Sensor A Circuit Intermittent/Erratic

What it means

The ECM detects a circuit intermittent/erratic fault on the hybrid/ev battery pack current sensor a circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Hybrid/EV battery pack current sensor A measures current into and out of the battery for the control module's charging and power decisions. P0AC3 sets when the sensor A signal is erratic or drops in and out instead of tracking current steadily, so the module cannot rely on it.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Sensor connector not seated
  2. Noisy ground reference
  3. Connector with intermittent contact under vibration

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced power output or limp mode
  • Charging may fail or be slowed
  • Reduced electric range

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and check hybrid-module codes to see whether the intermittent signal coincides with vibration, charging, or a change in battery load.
  2. Graph battery current sensor A live data during a controlled drive or charging event and look for sudden jumps or dropouts that do not match vehicle operation.
  3. Inspect sensor A's connector for incomplete seating, loose or corroded pins, and harness damage near bends or vibration points.
  4. With the vehicle safely powered down according to service information, check the sensor A signal, ground, and reference circuits for intermittent opens or unstable connections.
  5. If the fault is not visible, follow the manufacturer's procedure to test sensor A and its connections while monitoring the signal for dropouts.

Common fixes

  • Fully seat and secure the current sensor A connector.
  • Clean or replace terminals with poor or intermittent contact.
  • Repair chafed or broken wiring and restore a stable ground or reference connection.
  • Replace battery current sensor A if its output remains erratic after wiring faults are ruled out.

Can I keep driving?

Keep trips short and avoid heavy acceleration or charging if the warning returns or power becomes limited. An intermittent current reading can trigger sudden hybrid-system restrictions and reduce available battery assistance.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
