OBD-II fault code

P0B10: Hybrid/EV Battery Pack Current Sensor B Circuit Low

What it means

The control module detects a low signal in the hybrid/EV battery pack current sensor B circuit.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Battery pack current sensor B reports current flowing into or out of the hybrid or EV battery to the control module. The module monitors sensor B's signal and sets P0B10 when it falls below the expected range, which can make battery-current readings unreliable.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Signal wire shorted to ground
  2. Sensor or circuit fault
  3. Poor electrical connection

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced power output or limp mode
  • Charging may fail or be slowed
  • Reduced electric range

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and check live data for battery current sensor B to see when its reading drops and whether it differs from sensor A.
  2. With the vehicle powered down as specified by the manufacturer, visually inspect sensor B's accessible wiring and connectors for damage, corrosion, loose terminals, or signs of a short to ground.
  3. Check for related battery-current or low-voltage supply codes that could point to a shared power, ground, or reference problem.
  4. Using the wiring diagram, test sensor B's signal wire for a short to ground and inspect its ground and reference connections.
  5. Compare sensor B's output with the manufacturer's specification and sensor A under the same conditions to distinguish a circuit fault from a failed sensor.

Common fixes

  • Reseat and secure sensor B's connector and repair loose or corroded terminals.
  • Repair damaged wiring or a signal wire shorted to ground.
  • Restore a faulty ground or reference connection to specification.
  • Replace current sensor B if its output remains out of specification after circuit faults are ruled out.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid relying on electric propulsion or charging while the vehicle has reduced power or an EV system warning. Stop driving if power becomes unpredictable or a battery warning indicates an immediate hazard; continued operation with unreliable current readings can trigger protective shutdown.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
