OBD-II fault code

P0AC2: Hybrid/EV Battery Pack Current Sensor A Circuit High

What it means

The ECM detects a circuit high fault on the hybrid/ev battery pack current sensor a circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Hybrid/EV battery pack current sensor A measures current flowing into or out of the battery so the control module can manage charging and power delivery. P0AC2 sets when the sensor A circuit signal is higher than the module's expected range, making the current reading unreliable.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Signal wire shorted to B+
  2. Open sensor
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced power output or limp mode
  • Charging may fail or be slowed
  • Reduced electric range

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and scan all hybrid modules for related codes, noting whether the high signal appeared during charging, driving, or vehicle start-up.
  2. Review live data for battery current sensor A and compare the reported current with the vehicle's actual operating state and other available battery readings.
  3. With the vehicle safely powered down according to service information, inspect sensor A's connector and harness for an open circuit, pushed-out pins, corrosion, or a signal wire contacting battery voltage.
  4. Test the signal wire for a short to B+ and check continuity and connector condition against the manufacturer's wiring information.
  5. If the circuit is intact, test sensor A and the module input using the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure to distinguish an open sensor from a module fault.

Common fixes

  • Repair an open or damaged sensor A signal wire and secure its connector.
  • Clean or replace corroded or damaged connector terminals.
  • Repair a signal wire shorted to B+.
  • Replace battery pack current sensor A if testing confirms it is open or otherwise faulty.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid long trips or heavy loads if charging is slow, power is limited, or a hybrid warning is displayed. An unreliable current reading can cause the vehicle to restrict battery charging or hybrid assistance, reducing available electric range.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
