What it means
The ECM detects a circuit low fault on the hybrid/ev battery pack current sensor a circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Hybrid/EV battery pack current sensor A measures current entering or leaving the battery, and the control module uses its signal to manage charging and power delivery. P0AC1 sets when the sensor A circuit voltage is lower than the module's expected range, so the current reading cannot be trusted.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Internal sensor short
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and scan the hybrid modules for companion codes that could point to a shared supply, ground, or sensor fault.
- Check live data for battery current sensor A and compare it with the vehicle's operating state; confirm whether the low reading is constant or changes with charging or load.
- With the vehicle safely powered down according to its service information, inspect sensor A's connector and wiring for corrosion, pin damage, chafing, or a signal wire contacting ground.
- Test the sensor A signal circuit for a short to ground and check its ground and reference circuits against the manufacturer's wiring information.
- If the wiring and connections pass inspection, test battery current sensor A and the module input using the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure corroded or loose sensor A connector pins.
- Repair a signal wire shorted to ground or damaged harness section.
- Replace battery pack current sensor A if it tests internally shorted.
- Repair a verified fault in the sensor reference, ground, or module input circuit.
Can I keep driving?
Limit driving, especially hard acceleration and long trips, if power is reduced or charging is affected. The vehicle may restrict hybrid operation or leave you with less electric range because it cannot reliably measure battery current.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
