OBD-II fault code

P0B11: Hybrid/EV Battery Pack Current Sensor B Circuit High

What it means

The control module detects a high signal in the hybrid/EV battery pack current sensor B circuit.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Battery pack current sensor B measures current entering or leaving the hybrid or EV battery, and the control module uses its signal to manage battery operation. P0B11 sets when that signal rises above the expected range, as can happen if the signal is shorted to voltage or the circuit is open.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Signal wire shorted to voltage
  2. Open sensor or circuit
  3. Poor electrical connection

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced power output or limp mode
  • Charging may fail or be slowed
  • Reduced electric range

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and compare live current sensor B readings with sensor A to see whether B is unusually high or fixed when current should change.
  2. With the vehicle powered down as specified by the manufacturer, inspect sensor B's wiring and connector for damage, corrosion, loose pins, or a wire contacting a voltage source.
  3. Check for related open-circuit, supply, ground, or battery-current codes that may help locate a shared circuit issue.
  4. Use the wiring diagram to test sensor B's signal path for a short to voltage and check continuity through the circuit.
  5. Compare sensor B's output and circuit readings with the manufacturer's specification before concluding that the sensor itself has failed.

Common fixes

  • Reseat sensor B's connector and repair loose, corroded, or spread terminals.
  • Repair a signal wire shorted to voltage or other damaged wiring.
  • Restore continuity in an open sensor B circuit.
  • Replace current sensor B if its output remains out of specification after wiring and connections are verified.

Can I keep driving?

Limit driving if the vehicle has reduced power, charging trouble, or an EV system warning, and avoid trips that depend on electric range. Stop if power becomes unpredictable; an implausibly high current reading can cause the system to restrict battery use.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
