What it means
The control module detected a fault associated with drive motor A phase V current. The code alone does not identify whether the cause is in the current measurement circuit, inverter, or motor.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Drive motor A is a traction motor controlled through three inverter phases, and phase V is one of its current paths. P0A60 sets when the control module detects a fault associated with phase V current; the code does not by itself identify whether the sensor circuit, inverter, or motor is responsible.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Phase current sensor failed
- Wiring fault
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced motor power or torque
- Possible limp mode or vehicle shutdown
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and review hybrid fault details and live phase-current data to see when the phase V fault occurs and whether related codes are present.
- With the vehicle made safe under the manufacturer's high-voltage procedure, inspect drive motor A phase V wiring and connectors for damage, looseness, or overheating.
- Compare phase V current with phases U and W under the manufacturer's diagnostic conditions to determine whether the problem is isolated to V.
- Test the phase V current-sensing circuit and its wiring for continuity or connection faults using the manufacturer's procedure.
- If the wiring checks pass, have the inverter and drive motor A phase V path tested to distinguish a sensor, inverter, or motor fault.
Common fixes
- Secure or repair damaged phase V wiring and connector terminals.
- Repair a confirmed phase V current-sensor circuit fault.
- Repair or replace the inverter if testing identifies a fault in its phase V current path.
- Repair drive motor A if testing confirms an internal phase V fault.
Can I keep driving?
Motor power may be reduced, and limp mode or shutdown is possible. Avoid driving if torque is limited or warnings escalate; stop safely and arrange hybrid-system diagnosis.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
