What it means
The current sensor of the drive motor B reports a circuit high fault. Current measurement is unreliable.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Drive Motor B's current sensor supplies the inverter with current information for torque control. This code sets when the sensor circuit signal is higher than expected, which can result from a signal short to battery voltage, an open sensor, or a poor connector contact. The inverter may restrict Drive Motor B because the reported current cannot be trusted.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire shorted to B+
- Open sensor
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced motor power or torque
- Possible limp mode or vehicle shutdown
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and check Drive Motor B current readings for a signal stuck high or inconsistent with commanded torque.
- Check for related inverter and hybrid-system codes that may point to a shared supply or circuit fault.
- With the high-voltage system made safe according to service information, inspect Drive Motor B's current-sensor connector and accessible wiring for corrosion, damage, or contact with a power feed.
- Use the wiring diagram to check the signal circuit for a short to battery voltage and check for opens in the sensor circuit against the manufacturer's specification.
- If the wiring and connector pass, test Drive Motor B's current sensor for an open or failed output using the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure.
Common fixes
- Repair a signal wire shorted to battery voltage in Drive Motor B's current-sensor circuit.
- Repair an open or damaged wire in the sensor circuit.
- Clean, secure, or repair corroded connector terminals.
- Replace Drive Motor B's current sensor if testing confirms it is open or failed.
- Repair the inverter input fault if the sensor circuit and sensor test correctly.
Can I keep driving?
Motor power may be limited, and the hybrid system may enter reduced-power mode or shut down. Avoid demanding acceleration and stop safely if the vehicle loses power or displays a shutdown warning.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
