What it means
The current sensor of the drive motor A reports a circuit low fault. Current measurement is unreliable.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Drive Motor A's current sensor reports current to the inverter so the hybrid system can control motor torque. The module sets this code when the sensor circuit signal is lower than expected, which can result from a signal short to ground, an internally shorted sensor, or a poor connector contact. The inverter may reduce motor output because it cannot trust the current reading.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Internal sensor short
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced motor power or torque
- Possible limp mode or vehicle shutdown
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and check Drive Motor A current readings for a signal that stays unusually low or fails to respond to motor operation.
- Check for related inverter and hybrid-system codes that could indicate a shared sensor supply or ground problem.
- With the high-voltage system made safe according to service information, inspect Drive Motor A's current-sensor connector and wiring for corrosion, chafing, or a signal wire contacting ground.
- Use the wiring diagram to check the sensor signal for a short to ground and verify sensor power and ground against the manufacturer's specification.
- If the wiring and connector pass inspection, test Drive Motor A's current sensor for an internal short using the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure.
Common fixes
- Repair a signal wire shorted to ground in Drive Motor A's current-sensor circuit.
- Clean, secure, or repair corroded connector terminals.
- Repair a sensor power or ground connection that is pulling the signal low.
- Replace Drive Motor A's current sensor if it is internally shorted.
- Repair the inverter input fault if the sensor circuit tests correctly but the low reading remains.
Can I keep driving?
Reduced motor power or a hybrid-system shutdown may occur, so avoid driving in situations where sudden loss of acceleration would be hazardous. Stop safely if the vehicle enters reduced-power mode or its power becomes unpredictable.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
