What it means
Voltage on the clutch actuator control circuit is above threshold, indicating short to battery or open driver.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
The clutch actuator control circuit carries commands from the transmission controller to operate the clutch actuator. This code sets when the monitored circuit voltage is above the permitted range, which can result from a short to battery voltage, an open driver path, or a poor connector connection.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Short to battery
- Open driver circuit
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Check engine or transmission warning light on
- Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
- Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
- Slipping or shuddering during gear changes
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and check actuator command and circuit status with a scan tool to determine when the high condition appears.
- Inspect the actuator connector and harness for corrosion, loose or pushed-back pins, damaged insulation, and wiring touching a B+ supply.
- Use the wiring diagram to check for a short to battery voltage or an open driver circuit, comparing measurements with the manufacturer's specification.
- Check connector contact quality and harness continuity while moving the harness to find an intermittent open or high-resistance connection.
- If the circuit and actuator check out, test the transmission control module driver output according to the manufacturer's procedure.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure corroded or loose actuator connector terminals.
- Repair a control wire shorted to battery voltage or an open driver wire.
- Replace a damaged clutch actuator if testing identifies it as the source of the high reading.
- Repair the transmission control module output circuit if confirmed faulty.
Can I keep driving?
If the clutch engages unpredictably, shifts are missing, or the transmission will not select gears, stop driving and arrange prompt diagnosis. A high control-circuit reading can prevent dependable clutch operation and leave the vehicle without drive.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
