What it means
Voltage on the clutch actuator control circuit is below threshold, indicating short to ground or driver fault.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
The clutch actuator control circuit carries the transmission controller's command to operate the clutch actuator. This code sets when the monitored circuit voltage is lower than the permitted range, often because the control wire is grounded, a connector has excessive resistance, or the controller's output is faulty.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Short to ground
- TCM output driver fault
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Check engine or transmission warning light on
- Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
- Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
- Slipping or shuddering during gear changes
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and inspect actuator command and circuit status with a scan tool to see when the low condition occurs.
- Inspect the clutch actuator connector and harness for corrosion, loose pins, damaged insulation, or a control wire contacting ground.
- Check circuit voltage, ground, and continuity using the wiring diagram and manufacturer's specification, isolating the actuator and controller as directed.
- Check for excessive resistance across connector terminals and repeat the measurement while moving the harness to find an intermittent connection.
- If the wiring and actuator circuit are sound, test the transmission control module output driver using the manufacturer's procedure.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure corroded or loose actuator connector terminals.
- Repair a control wire shorted to ground or a damaged harness section.
- Replace a failed clutch actuator if it is causing the low circuit condition.
- Repair or replace the control module only after its output driver is confirmed faulty.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid driving if clutch engagement is slipping, shifts are missing, or the vehicle cannot select gears reliably; a low control signal can interrupt clutch operation. Stop safely if shifting becomes unpredictable and arrange prompt diagnosis.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
