OBD-II fault code

P08B6: Clutch Pedal Position Sensor B Circuit Low

What it means

The clutch pedal position sensor B reports a circuit low fault. Redundant pedal position channel is unreliable.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

Clutch pedal position sensor B gives the control module a redundant reading of clutch pedal travel. This code sets when the B-channel signal falls below its expected range, so the module cannot rely on that pedal-position input.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Position sensor failed
  2. Wiring fault
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • Check engine or transmission warning light on
  • Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
  • Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
  • Slipping or shuddering during gear changes

How to diagnose it

  1. Check freeze-frame and live data to confirm sensor B is low and observe whether its reading changes when the clutch pedal is pressed.
  2. Inspect sensor B’s connector and wiring for corrosion, loose terminals, chafing, or a signal wire shorted to ground.
  3. Check the sensor B supply, ground, and signal circuit against the wiring diagram and manufacturer’s specification.
  4. Compare B-channel data with sensor A through the pedal’s travel to determine whether the low reading is isolated to B.
  5. If the harness checks out, test clutch pedal position sensor B using the manufacturer’s procedure.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure corroded or loose terminals at sensor B.
  • Repair damaged wiring or a short to ground in the sensor B circuit.
  • Replace a faulty clutch pedal position sensor B.
  • Perform any required pedal sensor calibration after repair.

Can I keep driving?

Limp mode is not indicated by this code alone, but the redundant pedal signal may be unreliable and shifting can be affected. Avoid driving if the clutch or gear changes behave unpredictably; otherwise, arrange a prompt circuit check.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
