What it means
The clutch pedal position sensor B reports a circuit range/performance fault. Redundant pedal position channel is unreliable.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
Clutch pedal position sensor B provides a second measurement of pedal travel for the control module to use in transmission control and cross-checking. This code sets when the B-channel signal is present but falls outside its expected operating range or does not track pedal movement correctly.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Position sensor failed
- Wiring fault
- Sensor element aged beyond calibration window
Symptoms
- Check engine or transmission warning light on
- Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
- Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
- Slipping or shuddering during gear changes
How to diagnose it
- Review freeze-frame and live data to see where sensor B’s reading falls outside range and whether it changes smoothly as the pedal moves.
- Inspect sensor B’s mounting, connector, and nearby wiring for looseness, damage, or signs that the sensor has shifted.
- Compare sensors A and B through the full pedal travel to identify a B-channel reading that is offset, limited, or uneven.
- Check the B-channel supply, ground, and signal circuit against the wiring diagram and manufacturer’s specification.
- If the circuit is sound, test sensor B’s output across pedal travel and assess it against the manufacturer’s specification.
Common fixes
- Correct a loose sensor mount or connector that prevents proper pedal tracking.
- Repair wiring faults affecting the sensor B signal.
- Replace clutch pedal position sensor B if its output remains outside the specified range.
- Perform any required pedal sensor calibration after repair.
Can I keep driving?
The code does not necessarily put the vehicle in limp mode, but it can affect clutch-related shifting behavior. Avoid driving if shifts are difficult, harsh, or unreliable, and arrange diagnosis before symptoms worsen.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
