What it means
The clutch pedal position sensor A reports a circuit high fault. Pedal position cannot be measured reliably.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
Clutch pedal position sensor A reports pedal travel to the control module through an electrical signal. This code sets when that signal is higher than the calibrated range, which can be caused by a sensor fault or by a wiring or connector problem that raises the signal.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Position sensor failed
- Wiring fault
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Check engine or transmission warning light on
- Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
- Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
- Slipping or shuddering during gear changes
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and monitor live sensor A position with the pedal released and pressed to confirm the signal is abnormally high.
- Inspect sensor A’s connector and harness for corrosion, loose terminals, damaged insulation, or contact between the signal wire and a power feed.
- Use the wiring diagram to check for a short to voltage and verify the circuit’s supply, ground, and signal connections under the manufacturer’s test conditions.
- Compare the signal measured at the sensor with the reading at the control-module end to locate a wiring or connector fault.
- If wiring is sound, test sensor A’s output across pedal travel against the manufacturer’s specification.
Common fixes
- Repair a signal wire shorted to voltage or otherwise damaged.
- Correct loose, corroded, or misconnected sensor A connector terminals.
- Replace clutch pedal position sensor A if its output remains too high with a sound circuit.
- Clear the code and confirm the signal follows pedal movement within the manufacturer’s specification.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid driving if clutch operation or gear selection is unpredictable, as the high sensor A signal can disrupt clutch-related control. Stop if shifts become difficult or the vehicle behaves unexpectedly during gear changes.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
