What it means
General electrical fault on the pressure control solenoid B circuit — open coil, short to ground or battery, or driver feedback outside the expected range.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
Pressure control solenoid B is an electrically controlled valve that helps the transmission maintain the requested line pressure. This code sets when the TCM detects an electrical fault in solenoid B's circuit, such as an open coil, short, or unexpected driver feedback.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Open solenoid coil
- Damaged wiring at the transmission case connector
Symptoms
- Check engine or transmission warning light on
- Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
- Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
- Slipping or shuddering during gear changes
How to diagnose it
- Read freeze-frame data and all transmission codes to see when the solenoid B electrical fault occurred and whether it is present now.
- Inspect the transmission case connector and nearby harness for loose pins, corrosion, fluid intrusion, chafing, or broken wires.
- Check the solenoid B circuit and coil for opens or shorts using the manufacturer's test procedure.
- Check circuit continuity and isolation between the transmission connector and TCM, following the wiring diagram and manufacturer's procedure.
- Use a scan tool to observe solenoid B command and circuit feedback, if available, while checking for an intermittent connection.
- If the wiring and coil test correctly, test the TCM driver circuit according to the manufacturer's procedure.
Common fixes
- Reconnect, clean, or repair the transmission case connector and wiring.
- Repair an open, shorted, or chafed section of the solenoid B circuit.
- Replace pressure control solenoid B if its coil fails the specified electrical test.
- Repair the TCM driver circuit only if testing confirms it is faulty.
Can I keep driving?
If the transmission shifts harshly, slips, or enters limp mode, avoid further driving except to move to a safe location; loss of pressure control can damage the transmission. If shifting remains normal, keep the trip short and avoid towing until the circuit fault is diagnosed.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
