What it means
The standardized definition identifies a problem with the right front wheel speed sensor signal used by the ABS. The control module sets the code when that signal is missing or fails its expected checks; exact detection conditions vary by vehicle.
How it works
The right front wheel-speed sensor reports how fast that wheel is turning so the ABS module can compare it with the other wheels. C0200 indicates that the right front signal is missing or fails the module’s expected checks; a sensor, its wiring, the tone ring, or excessive bearing play can cause this.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Faulty wheel speed sensor
- Damaged wiring or connector
- Debris or damage at the sensor or tone ring
- Excessive wheel bearing play
- Fault in the ABS module
Symptoms
- ABS warning light
- Traction or stability control warning light
- ABS or traction control may be unavailable
How to diagnose it
- Review freeze-frame data and related ABS codes, then compare all four wheel-speed readings in live data at low speed to see whether the right front value drops out or differs.
- Inspect the right front sensor wiring and connector from the wheel to the body for cuts, chafing, corrosion, or a loose connection.
- Check the right front sensor mounting area and tone ring or encoder for debris, cracks, damage, or an incorrect air gap where applicable.
- Check the right front wheel bearing for excessive play that could disturb the sensor signal.
- Test the right front sensor and circuit to the ABS module using the vehicle-specific method and manufacturer’s specification before suspecting the module.
Common fixes
- Clean debris from the right front sensor or tone-ring area if applicable.
- Repair or reconnect damaged right front sensor wiring or connector.
- Replace the right front wheel-speed sensor if it fails the specified test.
- Repair a damaged tone ring or encoder, or address excessive right front bearing play.
- Repair or replace the ABS module only if the sensor signal reaches it correctly and its input is faulty.
Can I keep driving?
Normal braking may remain, but ABS and traction or stability control can be unavailable or respond unexpectedly. Drive cautiously, leave extra stopping distance, and avoid hard braking on slippery roads until the right front signal fault is fixed.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
