What it means
This code identifies a fault associated with the passenger frontal airbag stage 2 deployment control. The restraint control module sets it when it detects a fault in that deployment control; the exact fault depends on the accompanying subfault information.
How it works
The passenger frontal airbag uses a second-stage inflator that the restraint control module can command when crash severity calls for additional inflation. The module monitors that stage’s deployment circuit and stores B0019 when it detects a fault; the accompanying subfault information identifies the circuit condition.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Damaged passenger airbag wiring or connector
- Open or shorted deployment circuit
- Faulty passenger airbag module
- Restraint control module fault
Symptoms
- Airbag warning light on
- Passenger frontal airbag stage may be unavailable in a crash
How to diagnose it
- Read the restraint-module fault details and freeze-frame data with an SRS-capable scan tool to identify the reported subfault and whether it is current or intermittent.
- With the vehicle powered down according to the manufacturer’s SRS service procedure, visually inspect the passenger frontal airbag connectors and harness for damage, corrosion, or displaced terminals.
- Check the stage 2 deployment wiring for pinching, abrasion, an open, or a short, following the manufacturer’s procedure and avoiding direct probing of the inflator circuit.
- Use the specified SRS diagnostic method to assess circuit continuity and connector integrity; do not measure an airbag inflator with an ordinary ohmmeter.
- If the wiring and connectors pass, follow the manufacturer’s diagnostic tree to evaluate the passenger airbag module and restraint control module.
Common fixes
- Repair damaged passenger airbag wiring or terminals using the approved SRS repair procedure.
- Reseat or replace a damaged connector after following the manufacturer’s SRS disable procedure.
- Repair an open or short in the stage 2 deployment circuit as directed by the service information.
- Replace the passenger airbag module or restraint control module only if the specified tests identify it as faulty.
Can I keep driving?
The car may remain driveable, but the passenger frontal airbag’s second stage may not operate in a crash. Arrange diagnosis promptly, keep the passenger seat and airbag area undisturbed, and follow the vehicle’s warning guidance.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
