What it means
The restraint control module detected a fault in the passenger frontal airbag stage 2 deployment control circuit. The airbag may not deploy as intended in a crash.
How it works
The passenger frontal airbag’s second deployment stage has its own control circuit, which the restraint control module monitors separately from stage 1. B0011 sets when a fault is detected in the passenger stage 2 circuit, so that stage may not operate as intended in a crash.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Stage 2 squib circuit open or shorted
- Loose or corroded airbag connector
- SRS control module fault
Symptoms
- Airbag warning light on
How to diagnose it
- Read the SRS subfault and freeze-frame information with a scan tool to determine the recorded passenger stage 2 circuit condition.
- With the manufacturer’s safeing procedure followed, inspect the passenger airbag stage 2 connector and harness for loose terminals, corrosion, or damage.
- Test the stage 2 circuit for an open, short, or poor connection using the manufacturer’s specified SRS procedure.
- If the connector and wiring pass, test the passenger airbag module and restraint control module as directed by the service information.
- Clear B0011 after repair and confirm that the stage 2 fault does not return.
Common fixes
- Repair or secure a loose or corroded passenger stage 2 connector using approved SRS procedures.
- Repair damaged wiring in the passenger stage 2 circuit.
- Replace the passenger airbag module if the stage 2 squib circuit fails the specified test.
- Repair or replace the restraint control module if testing confirms an internal fault.
Can I keep driving?
Passenger frontal airbag protection may be reduced because its second stage has a detected fault. Limit driving while arranging prompt diagnosis, and keep clear of airbag connectors unless following the specified SRS safeing procedure.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
