What it means
The restraint control module detected a fault in the passenger frontal airbag stage 1 deployment control circuit. The airbag may not deploy as intended in a crash.
How it works
The passenger frontal airbag uses a first deployment stage with a dedicated firing circuit monitored by the restraint control module. B0010 sets when the module detects a fault in that passenger stage 1 control circuit, which can affect how the airbag deploys in a crash.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Loose or corroded passenger airbag connector
- Squib circuit open or shorted
- SRS control module fault
Symptoms
- Airbag warning light on
How to diagnose it
- Read SRS freeze-frame and subfault data with a capable scan tool to identify the passenger stage 1 circuit condition.
- Follow the manufacturer’s SRS safeing procedure, then inspect the passenger airbag connector and harness for looseness, corrosion, or damage.
- Check the stage 1 circuit for opens, shorts, and poor terminal contact using the manufacturer’s specified SRS method.
- If the wiring and connector are sound, test the passenger airbag module and restraint control module according to the service procedure.
- Repair the identified fault, clear B0010, and verify with another SRS scan that the code remains cleared.
Common fixes
- Reconnect or repair a loose or corroded passenger airbag stage 1 connector using approved SRS methods.
- Repair damaged wiring in the passenger stage 1 deployment circuit.
- Replace the passenger airbag module if its stage 1 circuit fails the specified test.
- Replace the restraint control module only if its fault is confirmed by diagnosis.
Can I keep driving?
The airbag warning light means passenger frontal airbag protection may be reduced, including the first deployment stage. Arrange prompt repair and avoid unnecessary trips; do not probe the airbag circuit with ordinary electrical test equipment.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
