OBD-II fault code

B0015: Passenger Knee Airbag Deployment Control

What it means

The restraint control module detected a fault in the passenger knee airbag deployment control circuit. The airbag may not deploy as intended in a crash.

How it works

The passenger knee airbag is mounted low in front of the passenger, and its deployment circuit is monitored by the restraint control module. B0015 sets when the module detects a fault in that passenger knee airbag circuit, so the airbag may not deploy as intended.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Squib circuit open or shorted
  2. Airbag connector loose

Symptoms

  • Airbag warning light on

How to diagnose it

  1. Read the SRS subfault and freeze-frame information with a capable scan tool to identify the passenger knee airbag circuit condition.
  2. Follow the manufacturer’s SRS safeing procedure, then inspect the passenger knee airbag connector and harness for looseness, corrosion, or damage.
  3. Check the passenger knee airbag circuit for an open, short, or poor connection using the specified SRS test procedure.
  4. If wiring and connector checks pass, test the passenger knee airbag module and then the restraint control module according to service information.
  5. Repair the identified fault, clear B0015, and confirm with a rescan that it remains cleared.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect or repair a loose passenger knee airbag connector using approved SRS methods.
  • Repair damaged wiring or terminals in the passenger knee airbag circuit.
  • Replace the passenger knee airbag module if its circuit fails the specified test.
  • Repair or replace the restraint control module if testing confirms an internal fault.

Can I keep driving?

The airbag warning light indicates the passenger knee airbag may not deploy in a crash, reducing protection for the passenger’s lower body. Arrange prompt repair and avoid unnecessary trips while the restraint fault is active.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
