What is the Scion iQ?

The Scion iQ is a tiny city car, built around a compact footprint for urban driving. It was Scion’s smallest model, with a four-seat layout that made use of its short body. Toyota described it as a premium micro-subcompact.

Toyota developed the iQ and brought it to North America under the Scion name. The model suited drivers looking for a small car for city journeys and everyday errands.

Generations and engines

The North American iQ had one generation. It was sold in the United States from 2011 to 2015 and in Canada from 2012 to 2015. Toyota’s design focused on fitting four seats into a very small car.

The North American petrol versions used a 1.3-litre engine. The US range also included an electric version; the Canadian versions were petrol.

How economical is the Scion iQ?

In the United States, the EPA rates the iQ at up to 37 MPG combined, with listed consumption as low as 6.4 L/100 km. In Canada, NRCan’s 5-cycle test gives a low of 6.2 L/100 km. The EPA and Canadian test procedures differ, so their results are best read within their own markets.

The iQ was sold in the United States from 2011 to 2015 and in Canada from 2012 to 2015. Toyota announced in 2016 that Scion would transition back into the Toyota brand.
