What is the GMC Envoy XL?

The GMC Envoy XL was the extended-length version of the midsize Envoy SUV. It kept the model’s upright, truck-inspired shape while adding a longer body for buyers who wanted a more spacious utility vehicle. It sat within GMC’s midsize SUV range, below the brand’s full-size models, and was sold in both the United States and Canada.

The XL arrived as part of the GMT360-era Envoy family. Its longer format distinguished it from the standard Envoy while sharing the same broad mechanical and design approach. GMC’s truck and utility-vehicle heritage shaped the XL’s practical character and its place in the lineup.

GMC Envoy XL generation

The second generation ran from 2002 to 2006 in Canada and is identified by the GMT370 code. The extended model shared the GMT360 family’s basic design direction, but its longer body made it the roomier member of the Envoy range. United States figures extend through 2007, while the Canadian figures end in 2006.

Engines and power

The listed engine sizes range from 4.2 L to 5.3 L, and the market figures identify petrol versions. That span gave the Envoy XL a choice of engine sizes for its extended SUV body. Power differs by version, so the engine capacity range is the clearest summary across the lineup.

How economical is the GMC Envoy XL?

The best listed combined EPA rating is 16 MPG, with the lowest United States consumption recorded at 14.7 L/100 km. Canada’s lowest listed figure is 14.3 L/100 km on the NRCan 5-cycle test. The two markets use different fuel-economy procedures; European WLTP and NEDC figures are measured differently again. United States figures cover 2002–2007, while Canadian figures cover 2002–2006.
