OBD-II fault code

U0555: Invalid Data Received From Remote Start Module

What it means

A receiving module detected implausible data from the remote-start module. Engine pre-start request or status values fail plausibility checks and are rejected.

How it works

The remote-start module sends pre-start requests and status information to other vehicle modules. U0555 sets when a receiving module rejects data attributed to that module because the request or status values fail plausibility checks.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Module internal fault or sensor input drift
  2. Software version mismatch after replacement
  3. Gateway module routing CAN messages incorrectly

Symptoms

  • Multiple warning lights may illuminate
  • Affected modules may go into limp mode or shut down
  • Specific functions inoperative depending on module
  • Diagnostic tools may show communication faults

How to diagnose it

  1. Scan all modules and save freeze-frame and communication details to identify the receiving module and any related remote-start or security faults.
  2. Check whether remote starting is unavailable or behaves inconsistently, and note whether the vehicle starts normally using its regular controls.
  3. Inspect the remote-start module's connectors and harness for loose pins, corrosion, moisture or damage.
  4. Use a scan tool to review remote-start request and status data while checking the system's normal operating states.
  5. Look for gateway or network codes in other modules that could explain incorrect routing of remote-start messages.
  6. If wiring and routing are sound, check for an internal module fault or a software/configuration mismatch, especially after replacement.

Common fixes

  • Repair damaged or corroded remote-start module wiring and connectors.
  • Restore the module's power or ground connection if it is poor.
  • Correct software or vehicle configuration after a remote-start module replacement.
  • Repair or replace the remote-start module if its data remains implausible.
  • Correct gateway routing if other network faults show that messages are being misdirected.

Can I keep driving?

If the vehicle starts and runs normally with its regular controls and no other warnings are present, driving is generally possible; avoid relying on remote start until it is repaired. If starting, security or other vehicle functions are affected, park safely and investigate before continuing.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
