What it means
A control module received data from the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Control Module that it judged invalid or implausible. This code does not identify which data was rejected or which dependent functions are affected.
At a glance
- Usually lights the warning light of the system that lost communication
How it works
The ABS Control Module monitors wheel-speed and braking inputs and manages anti-lock braking; it also supplies data used by stability and traction systems. U0415 sets when another module judges data from the ABS controller invalid or implausible, but does not identify which ABS information was rejected.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Fault or implausible input at the ABS control module
- Damaged or loose network wiring or connector
- Module power, ground, or programming issue
Symptoms
- ABS or stability-control warning message
- ABS or related functions may be limited
- Other communication codes
How to diagnose it
- Scan every module and save freeze-frame data before clearing codes; identify which module stored U0415 and check for ABS, wheel-speed, or network codes.
- Compare live wheel-speed readings while moving slowly in a safe area, if permitted, and look for a wheel whose reading drops out or disagrees with the others.
- Inspect ABS module connectors and accessible wiring, along with wheel-speed sensor leads, for damage, corrosion, loose connections, or contamination near the sensors.
- Check the ABS module's own codes and live data to determine whether its inputs or reported brake and stability status are implausible.
- If input and wiring checks do not explain the code, test ABS module power, grounds, and network circuits to the manufacturer's specification and check applicable software updates.
Common fixes
- Repair a damaged wheel-speed sensor lead or secure a loose ABS connector.
- Clean or replace a faulty wheel-speed sensor or repair its tone ring/encoder fault when tests identify it.
- Repair the ABS module's power, ground, or network wiring fault.
- Update or replace the ABS Control Module only after its inputs and circuits have been verified.
Can I keep driving?
ABS or stability assistance may be reduced, although basic braking may remain. Drive cautiously, leave extra stopping distance, and avoid hard braking or slippery roads; stop if the brake warning appears or braking feels abnormal.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
