OBD-II fault code

U0215: Lost Communication With Door Switch A

What it means

The reporting module has lost communication with door switch A. It sets this code when expected switch messages are not received for a specified time.

How it works

Door Switch A reports door status to other modules over the vehicle network. This code is set when the reporting module does not receive the expected messages from switch A for the required period; it does not identify the door location by itself.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Switch power or ground fault
  2. Damaged or corroded wiring or connectors
  3. CAN bus fault
  4. Door switch A failure
  5. Low battery voltage

Symptoms

  • Door status may display incorrectly
  • Door warning or courtesy light may malfunction
  • Other communication codes

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and scan for other communication codes, noting whether they involve switch A or several modules.
  2. Check battery condition and inspect the power and ground connections for Door Switch A.
  3. Inspect the switch A connector and nearby wiring for corrosion, damage, loose terminals, or signs of movement-related breaks.
  4. Use a scan tool to compare the reported status from switch A with the actual door position and check whether the module communicates.
  5. If power and ground are sound but messages are still missing, test the relevant network wiring and switch operation against the manufacturer's specification.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure the power, ground, or connector connection at Door Switch A.
  • Repair damaged wiring or corroded terminals at switch A.
  • Correct a low battery or charging problem if voltage loss caused the communication fault.
  • Repair the network wiring if testing finds an open or poor connection.
  • Replace Door Switch A if its supply and network connections are sound but it fails testing.

Can I keep driving?

The vehicle is usually drivable, but door status, warning alerts, or courtesy lighting may be unreliable. Confirm each door is fully latched before driving, since the affected status indication may not accurately report it.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
