What it means
The reporting module has lost communication with door switch E. It sets this code when expected switch messages are not received for a specified time.
How it works
Door switch E sends door status messages over the vehicle network for other modules to use. U0219 is stored when the reporting module does not receive expected messages from switch E within the allowed time.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Switch power or ground fault
- Damaged or corroded wiring or connectors
- CAN bus fault
- Door switch E failure
- Low battery voltage
Symptoms
- Door status may display incorrectly
- Door warning or courtesy light may malfunction
- Other communication codes
How to diagnose it
- Scan all modules and note whether U0219 appears alongside other network faults or low-voltage events in the freeze-frame data.
- Operate the door associated with switch E and check whether its displayed status, warning, and courtesy light change reliably.
- Inspect switch E's connector and door harness for corrosion, loose pins, chafing, or breaks, especially where the harness flexes.
- Check switch E's power and ground, then test its network wiring for an open or short using the vehicle wiring information.
- If its wiring and supply are intact, test switch E and confirm its network messages using the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure.
Common fixes
- Restore battery charge if low voltage coincides with the fault.
- Reseat or clean the switch E connector if it is loose or corroded.
- Repair a damaged harness or faulty power or ground connection to switch E.
- Repair a confirmed network fault on the switch E branch.
- Replace switch E if it fails the specified test after wiring checks pass.
Can I keep driving?
A short drive may be reasonable if the door closes and latches securely, but verify it before driving. The vehicle may misreport that door's status or keep its warning or courtesy light on.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
