OBD-II fault code

P0BEB: Drive Motor A Phase V Current Sensor Circuit Low

What it means

The current sensor for drive motor A phase V reports a circuit low fault. Phase current measurement is unreliable.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Drive motor A phase V is one of the motor’s controlled electrical phases, and its current sensor reports that phase’s current to the inverter. The ECM monitors the sensor circuit and sets this code when the phase V signal falls below its usable range. The current measurement is then unreliable for controlling motor output.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Signal wire shorted to ground
  2. Internal sensor short
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced motor power or torque
  • Possible limp mode or vehicle shutdown

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and check related inverter and phase current codes to determine whether the low signal is limited to drive motor A phase V.
  2. Compare live phase V current data with phases U and W for a value that stays low or conflicts with the vehicle’s operating state.
  3. With the vehicle safely powered down, inspect accessible phase V sensor wiring and connector terminals for corrosion, damage, or a signal wire shorted to ground.
  4. Have a qualified technician test the phase V signal circuit for a short to ground and check connector contact using manufacturer wiring information.
  5. If the wiring and terminals pass, test the phase V current sensor for an internal short against the manufacturer’s specification.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure corroded or loose phase V sensor connector terminals.
  • Repair damaged phase V wiring that is shorted to ground.
  • Replace the phase V current sensor if testing confirms an internal short.
  • Clear the code and verify that phase V current data is plausible.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid high-load driving because the inverter may limit power or enter limp mode when phase V feedback is unreliable. Stop safely and arrange recovery if a shutdown warning appears or the vehicle loses substantial power.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
