OBD-II fault code

P2DBC: Battery Charger B Coupler Lock Position Sensor Circuit

What it means

The ECM detects a circuit fault on the battery charger b coupler lock position sensor circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

The battery charger B coupler lock position sensor reports whether the charging coupler lock is in the expected position. The control module monitors the sensor circuit for a usable signal, and this code sets when that circuit has an electrical fault that makes the reading unreliable.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Sensor failed
  2. Wiring or connector fault

Symptoms

  • Charge status indicator shows fault
  • Charging may not start or interrupts
  • Slower-than-expected charge rate

How to diagnose it

  1. Review freeze-frame data and charging-system codes to see whether the sensor fault occurred while the coupler was being connected or charging was starting.
  2. Inspect the charger B coupler lock sensor connector and visible wiring for looseness, damage, or contamination.
  3. Check that the coupler lock moves freely and that the sensor is not obstructed or visibly displaced.
  4. Use scan-tool live data to compare the reported lock position with the actual position as the coupler is safely operated.
  5. Test the sensor circuit and sensor response to the manufacturer's specification to distinguish a wiring fault from a failed sensor.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect a loose sensor connector.
  • Repair damaged wiring or connector terminals at the coupler lock sensor.
  • Clear debris or obstruction preventing the lock from moving freely.
  • Replace the faulty coupler lock position sensor.

Can I keep driving?

Charging may fail to start or may stop if the vehicle cannot verify that charger B's coupler is locked. Do not force the coupler or defeat the lock; stop charging if the connection does not secure normally.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
