OBD-II fault code

P0DA1: Battery Charger A Coupler Lock Position Sensor Circuit High

What it means

The ECM detects a high fault on the battery charger a coupler lock position sensor circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The battery charger A coupler lock position sensor reports whether the connector is secured. This code sets when its circuit signal is higher than the control module expects, which can result from a signal short to battery voltage or an open sensor.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Signal wire shorted to B+
  2. Open sensor
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • Charge status indicator shows fault
  • Charging may not start or interrupts
  • Slower-than-expected charge rate

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and check live lock-position status as the charger A coupler is moved between unlocked and locked positions.
  2. Inspect the lock-position sensor connector for disconnection, corrosion, or damage, and look for broken wiring or insulation touching a power feed.
  3. With the vehicle made safe according to its service information, test the signal wire for an open circuit and a short to battery voltage.
  4. Test the lock-position sensor against the manufacturer's specification to determine whether it is open.
  5. If the sensor and wiring pass, check the module input using the vehicle's diagnostic information.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect a loose lock-position sensor connector and repair damaged wiring.
  • Clean corroded connector terminals and restore secure pin contact.
  • Repair an open signal wire or short to battery voltage.
  • Replace the charger A lock-position sensor if it tests open or out of specification.

Can I keep driving?

Charging may be blocked or interrupted because the vehicle cannot trust the lock-position signal. Do not charge with a coupler that fails to lock securely, and do not force the connector into place.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
