What it means
The high-voltage interlock circuit for the inductive charging system has a performance fault. The code does not by itself establish that the interlock chain is compromised.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The high-voltage interlock circuit is a monitored safety loop associated with the inductive charging system; it helps the controller detect whether relevant high-voltage connections are properly closed. P2D35 means the interlock signal's performance is outside the expected pattern, but the code alone does not prove that the safety loop is open or that the battery pack is unsafe.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Interlock signal interrupted
- Interlock connector not seated
- Pack cell imbalance approaching service threshold
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Read freeze-frame data and all hybrid battery and charging codes to establish when the interlock performance fault appeared and whether another fault preceded it.
- Check live interlock status with a scan tool and note whether it changes during charging or when the system reports the fault.
- With the vehicle powered down as specified by the manufacturer, visually inspect accessible interlock connectors for incomplete seating, corrosion, moisture, or damaged locks.
- Inspect accessible interlock wiring for chafing, pinched sections, or damaged insulation without opening high-voltage components.
- Have a qualified technician test the interlock circuit and assess any reported cell imbalance using the manufacturer's procedures.
Common fixes
- Fully seat an accessible interlock connector if inspection confirms it is loose and the manufacturer's procedure permits this.
- Repair damaged low-voltage interlock wiring or connector terminals.
- Correct a verified battery-pack imbalance through the manufacturer's service procedure.
- Replace a failed interlock component if circuit testing identifies it.
Can I keep driving?
Because this code involves a high-voltage safety interlock, do not touch or open high-voltage components. If power is reduced, avoid demanding acceleration and arrange prompt diagnosis; stop driving if the vehicle warns of a high-voltage fault or loses drive power.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
