What it means
The supply circuit for the hybrid battery contactor control reports a high condition. Contactor coils may not energise as expected.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The hybrid battery contactors connect the high-voltage pack to the vehicle, and their coils depend on a monitored control supply. P2C95 sets when that supply is detected above its expected range, which can prevent reliable contactor operation.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Supply wire shorted to B+
- Alternator regulator overvoltage
- Pack cell imbalance approaching service threshold
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and check hybrid and powertrain modules for related overvoltage, contactor, and cell-balance codes.
- Review live data for the contactor control supply and compare it with the manufacturer's expected range during the conditions recorded in freeze-frame.
- With the high-voltage system made safe according to the manufacturer's procedure, inspect the control supply wire for contact with a B+ source and check connectors for damage.
- Test the supply circuit for a short to B+ and check whether the vehicle's low-voltage charging system is overcharging, following manufacturer specifications.
- If the wiring and charging system are normal, review pack cell balance and contactor control data using the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure.
Common fixes
- Repair a control supply wire shorted to B+.
- Clean, secure, or repair a damaged control circuit connector.
- Repair an overvoltage fault in the low-voltage charging system if confirmed.
- Address a pack cell imbalance if testing shows it is relevant.
Can I keep driving?
Limit driving because reduced power or limp mode may occur, and charging may be unreliable. Stop safely if propulsion is reduced or a high-voltage system warning appears, and arrange service.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
