OBD-II fault code

P2C93: Hybrid/EV Battery Contactor Control Supply Circuit Range/Performance

What it means

The supply circuit for the hybrid battery contactor control reports a range/performance condition. Contactor coils may not energise as expected.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The battery contactor control supply circuit provides power for the control that operates the high-voltage battery contactors. The vehicle monitors whether the supply stays within its expected operating range; this range/performance code sets when the circuit is present but its voltage or performance is outside the calibrated range, often because of voltage drift or excess resistance at a connection.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Supply voltage drift outside calibration
  2. High-resistance contact in connector
  3. Sensor element aged beyond calibration window

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced power output or limp mode
  • Charging may fail or be slowed
  • Reduced electric range

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and related hybrid codes, noting the contactor supply reading and conditions when the range fault occurred.
  2. Use a compatible scan tool to compare the contactor supply reading and contactor command/status data with other available low-voltage system readings.
  3. With the high-voltage system made safe under the manufacturer’s service procedure, inspect the supply connectors for corrosion, looseness, heat marks, or damaged terminals.
  4. Measure the contactor control supply under the specified operating conditions and compare it with the manufacturer’s specification.
  5. Check for voltage drop or high resistance across the supply fuse, connectors, and wiring, then isolate the source of drift before replacing components.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure a high-resistance contact in the contactor control supply connector.
  • Repair damaged or corroded supply wiring or terminals.
  • Replace a fuse or supply connection that fails testing, after finding the cause of any abnormal voltage.
  • Repair or replace the component responsible for supply voltage drift if circuit checks identify it.

Can I keep driving?

A supply circuit outside its expected range can cause reduced hybrid power or charging problems and may prevent reliable contactor operation. Avoid long trips and stop safely if the vehicle limits power, will not charge, or displays a high-voltage system warning.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
