OBD-II fault code

P2BE7: Hybrid/EV Battery Pack Current Sensor C High

What it means

The hybrid control module detects a high fault on the high-voltage battery pack current sensor C. Pack-level current measurement is impaired.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Battery pack current sensor C measures current for the hybrid control module's battery management decisions. P2BE7 sets when sensor C's circuit signal is higher than expected, often because its signal wire is shorted to power or the sensor circuit is open.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Signal wire shorted to power
  2. Open current sensor

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced power output or limp mode
  • Charging may fail or be slowed
  • Reduced electric range

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and check live sensor C current data for a high or fixed reading that does not follow pack operation.
  2. Inspect the accessible sensor C connector and harness for damaged insulation, loose pins, or contact with a power feed.
  3. Use the manufacturer's wiring diagram to check the signal circuit for a short to power and verify continuity.
  4. Check whether sensor C is open or fails to respond as specified under the manufacturer's test conditions.
  5. If wiring and connections pass, test or replace current sensor C only after confirming it fails the specified checks.

Common fixes

  • Repair a sensor C signal wire that is shorted to power.
  • Repair loose or damaged sensor C connector terminals.
  • Replace current sensor C if it is open or fails the manufacturer's test.
  • Verify that live sensor C data responds correctly to pack operation after repair.

Can I keep driving?

Unreliable pack current data can cause reduced power or charging restrictions. Avoid demanding driving and stop if the vehicle loses substantial power or displays a battery temperature warning.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
