OBD-II fault code

P2763: Torque Converter Clutch Pressure Control Solenoid Control Circuit High

What it means

Voltage on the TCC pressure control solenoid control line is above the expected window. Wiring faults of this kind typically come from chafing, water ingress at connector seals, or pin push-back — a wiggle test on the harness while the code is active often confirms the location.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

The torque converter clutch (TCC) pressure control solenoid controls hydraulic pressure for converter lockup. The transmission control module monitors its control line; this code sets when the circuit voltage is above the expected window, which can result from a short to battery voltage or an open solenoid coil.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Control wire shorted to B+
  2. Open solenoid coil
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • Check engine or transmission warning light on
  • Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
  • Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
  • Slipping or shuddering during gear changes

How to diagnose it

  1. Use freeze-frame and live data to confirm the TCC solenoid circuit high condition and note whether it is present continuously or intermittently.
  2. Inspect the solenoid connector and harness for damaged insulation, a wire contacting a power feed, corrosion, or loose or pushed-back pins.
  3. Wiggle the harness while monitoring the circuit status to check for a fault that changes with movement.
  4. With the circuit checked safely according to the wiring information, test for a short to battery voltage and inspect the solenoid coil for an open.
  5. Compare circuit and coil test results with the manufacturer's specification before deciding whether the harness, connector, or solenoid is faulty.

Common fixes

  • Repair a control wire shorted to battery voltage.
  • Repair loose, corroded, or damaged solenoid connector terminals.
  • Repair damaged harness insulation that allows contact with a power feed.
  • Replace the TCC pressure control solenoid if its coil is open and the wiring is sound.

Can I keep driving?

Limit driving if shifts are harsh or the transmission slips, and avoid towing or strenuous use. The high circuit fault can prevent proper TCC pressure control and may lead to abnormal shifting or increased transmission heat.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
