What it means
Voltage on the sound generator B control line is above the expected window. Wiring faults of this kind typically come from chafing, water ingress at connector seals, or pin push-back — a wiggle test on the harness while the code is active often confirms the location.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
Engine sound control B is the control circuit for the sound generator's B channel. P26EE sets when the module detects voltage above the expected range, which can happen if the control wire is shorted to battery voltage or the amplifier input is faulty.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Control wire shorted to B+
- Amplifier input stage open
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Check-engine light may be on
- Engine sound enhancement may be reduced, absent, or irregular
- No change in normal engine operation may be noticeable
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame and live data for the B circuit to confirm when its voltage rises above the expected range.
- Inspect the B-channel harness for contact with a power feed, damaged insulation, moisture, or connector pins that are loose or pushed back.
- With power isolated as directed by the manufacturer, test the B control wire for a short to battery voltage and check continuity.
- Check connector terminals and measure the B circuit voltage with the system commanded on and off, comparing results with the manufacturer's procedure.
- If the harness and connector pass, test the amplifier B input stage for an internal fault.
Common fixes
- Restore the B-channel connector's terminal fit and remove moisture or corrosion.
- Repair a B control wire that is touching a power feed.
- Replace a damaged connector or terminal causing the high reading.
- Replace the amplifier if its B input stage is confirmed faulty.
Can I keep driving?
P26EE generally affects the enhanced sound from channel B, not normal engine operation, so driving is usually possible if the vehicle otherwise runs normally. Stop and investigate if additional electrical or powertrain warnings appear.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
