OBD-II fault code

P2660: B Rocker Arm Actuator Control Circuit / Open Bank 2

What it means

The control module monitors the B rocker arm actuator control circuit on bank 2 and sets this code when it detects an open circuit that prevents the actuator from being driven.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

The B rocker arm actuator on bank 2 switches the valve train into a different operating mode when commanded by the control module. This code sets when the module detects an open in that actuator's control circuit, so it cannot drive the bank 2 actuator.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Open coil in oil control valve
  2. Broken control wire

Symptoms

  • Check-engine light
  • Reduced engine power or acceleration
  • Rough running or engine misfire

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and check for related rocker-arm or oil-control codes that could help explain the bank 2 fault.
  2. Locate the B actuator on bank 2 using vehicle service information, then inspect its connector and wiring for breaks, pulled pins, corrosion, or chafing.
  3. Disconnect the actuator and check its coil for an open circuit against the manufacturer's specification.
  4. Check continuity through the bank 2 B actuator control wire and inspect for an open between the actuator connector and module connector.
  5. If the wiring and coil test correctly, check the module connector and control output using the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect or clean the bank 2 B actuator connector and repair damaged wiring.
  • Replace the B rocker arm actuator on bank 2 if its coil is open.
  • Repair an open in the actuator control wire or terminal.
  • Repair the module connector or replace a faulty driver only after circuit testing confirms the cause.

Can I keep driving?

A short, gentle trip may be possible if the engine is running smoothly, but reduced power or rough running can make acceleration unpredictable. Avoid hard acceleration and stop if the engine misfires severely or the warning light flashes.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
