OBD-II fault code

P2655: A Rocker Arm Actuator Control Circuit / Open Bank 2

What it means

The controller cannot drive the rocker arm switching actuator A on bank 2. The valve lift mode cannot be switched on this bank.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

The rocker arm actuator A switches valve lift on bank 2, changing how the engine breathes. The controller monitors the actuator’s electrical control circuit and sets this code when it detects an open circuit that prevents it from driving the actuator.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Open coil in oil control valve
  2. Broken control wire

Symptoms

  • Check-engine light
  • Reduced engine power or acceleration
  • Rough running or engine misfire

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and check for related rocker-arm codes to see when bank 2 actuator A stopped responding.
  2. With the engine off, inspect the bank 2 actuator A connector and nearby wiring for loose plugs, damage, or corrosion.
  3. Check the actuator coil for an open circuit using the manufacturer's test procedure and compare the result with its specification.
  4. Test continuity through the actuator control wire and its connections to locate a break.
  5. If wiring and the coil pass, check the control circuit at the module connector using the manufacturer's procedure.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect or clean a loose or corroded actuator A connector on bank 2.
  • Repair a broken bank 2 actuator control wire.
  • Replace the rocker arm actuator A if its coil is open.
  • Repair the control circuit connection at the module if testing identifies it as the open.

Can I keep driving?

Drive only as needed and avoid hard acceleration, since bank 2 may remain in the wrong valve lift mode and the engine may lose power or run roughly. Stop if misfiring becomes severe or the check-engine light flashes.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
