What it means
Voltage on the rocker arm actuator B control line on bank 2 is below the expected window. Usually a short to ground or a shorted solenoid coil.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
The control module drives the B rocker arm actuator on bank 2 through an electrical circuit. This code sets when the monitored control-line voltage is lower than expected, commonly because the wire is shorted to ground or the actuator coil is internally shorted.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Control wire shorted to ground
- Internal short in solenoid coil
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Check-engine light
- Reduced engine power or acceleration
- Rough running or engine misfire
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and check for related bank 2 rocker-arm codes before clearing anything.
- Inspect the bank 2 B actuator connector and harness for rubbed insulation, corrosion, moisture, or a pin contacting ground.
- With the circuit isolated as directed by service information, check the actuator coil for a short or resistance outside the manufacturer's specification.
- Test the control wire for a short to ground and inspect connector terminals for corrosion or poor contact.
- If wiring and actuator checks pass, test the module's control output using the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure corroded or loose terminals at the bank 2 B actuator connector.
- Repair control-wire insulation that is shorted to ground.
- Replace the B rocker arm actuator on bank 2 if its coil is internally shorted or out of specification.
- Repair a confirmed module connector or driver fault.
Can I keep driving?
A short trip may be possible if the engine runs normally, but this electrical fault can prevent bank 2 valve-train control and lead to rough running or reduced power. Avoid hard acceleration and stop if misfiring becomes severe.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
