OBD-II fault code

P2518: A/C Refrigerant Pressure Sensor B Circuit High

What it means

The pressure sensor B circuit signal is above the expected limit. This can result from a circuit or sensor fault; the code does not identify the cause.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

A/C refrigerant pressure sensor B reports pressure through a signal circuit to the control module. P2518 sets when that signal is above the expected limit; a short to reference voltage or an open signal return can make the reading appear high.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Signal wire shorted to reference voltage
  2. Open signal return at the sensor
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • Check-engine light
  • A/C may not cool
  • A/C may switch on and off unexpectedly

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and observe live sensor B pressure to determine whether the signal is fixed high or changes with A/C operation.
  2. Inspect sensor B's connector and harness for corrosion, loose pins, pinched wiring, or damage near the sensor.
  3. Check the sensor B signal and return circuits against the wiring diagram, looking for an open return or a signal shorted to reference voltage.
  4. Verify the reference, ground, and signal behavior using the manufacturer's circuit test procedure.
  5. If the circuit tests pass, test sensor B output against the manufacturer's specification.

Common fixes

  • Repair a signal wire shorted to reference voltage or a pinched harness.
  • Restore an open sensor signal return.
  • Clean or repair corroded or loose connector contacts.
  • Replace sensor B if its output remains out of specification with a sound circuit.

Can I keep driving?

Driving is generally possible if the vehicle behaves normally, but A/C cooling may be unavailable or inconsistent. Do not rely on it for demisting until operation is dependable.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
