OBD-II fault code

P0532: A/C Refrigerant Pressure Sensor A Circuit Low

What it means

A/C pressure sensor signal voltage below the lower threshold — open, short to ground, sensor fault, or a refrigerant charge so low that the pressure is genuinely low.

How it works

A/C Refrigerant Pressure Sensor A sends a pressure signal to the control module for compressor and fan control. P0532 sets when that circuit's signal is below its lower threshold; the signal can be low because of a sensor or wiring fault, or because refrigerant pressure is genuinely low.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Refrigerant charge low
  2. Sensor circuit shorted to ground or open
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • A/C warning light may turn on
  • Air conditioning may not cool
  • Compressor may not engage

How to diagnose it

  1. Review freeze-frame and live data to confirm the Pressure Sensor A reading is low and note whether the A/C compressor was requested.
  2. Inspect the sensor connector and wiring for corrosion, damaged pins, a loose fit, or a signal wire touching ground.
  3. Check the sensor reference and ground, then measure the signal circuit against the manufacturer's specification.
  4. If the electrical circuit is sound, have refrigerant pressure checked with suitable A/C service equipment to distinguish low charge from a false sensor signal.
  5. If pressure is normal but the scan reading stays low, test or replace Pressure Sensor A according to the manufacturer's procedure.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure corroded or loose sensor connector pins.
  • Repair a signal wire short to ground or an open in the Pressure Sensor A circuit.
  • Repair a refrigerant leak and restore the specified charge if system pressure is genuinely low.
  • Replace Pressure Sensor A if its output remains below range with correct pressure and wiring.

Can I keep driving?

The A/C may not cool and the compressor may be inhibited, but normal driving is usually possible. Do not keep requesting compressor operation if the system has lost refrigerant; low charge can reduce lubrication and damage the compressor.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
