What it means
The engine oil level sensor circuit signal is above the expected range. The code does not identify the cause or how the vehicle handles an invalid reading.
How it works
The engine oil-level sender reports sump oil level through a signal circuit monitored by the control module. P250D sets when that signal is higher than the expected range, which may happen if the signal wire is connected to reference voltage or the signal return is open.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire shorted to reference voltage
- Open signal return
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Check-engine light
- Oil-level warning light or message
- Oil-level reading may be missing or implausible
How to diagnose it
- Use freeze-frame and live data to confirm whether the oil-level signal remains high or changes with vehicle operation.
- Check the actual oil level on level ground using the vehicle's specified procedure, since a high circuit signal does not mean the sump is overfilled.
- Inspect the oil-level sender connector and harness for corrosion, pin damage, or a wire pinched against a voltage supply.
- Using the wiring diagram, check for an open signal return and test whether the signal wire is shorted to reference voltage.
- Compare sender and circuit readings with the manufacturer's specification before deciding whether the sender or harness needs repair.
Common fixes
- Repair a signal wire shorted to reference voltage.
- Restore a broken or open signal return connection.
- Repair corroded or damaged connector terminals at the oil-level sender.
- Replace the sender if its output remains above specification with the wiring verified.
Can I keep driving?
Because the high signal can make the oil-level display unreliable, check the level manually before driving. Stop if the oil is below the specified minimum or an oil-pressure warning appears.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
