OBD-II fault code

P2452: Diesel Particulate Filter Pressure Sensor A Circuit

What it means

A general electrical fault on the DPF differential-pressure sensor circuit. Without a valid pressure reading the ECU cannot estimate soot load and may inhibit regeneration.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

DPF pressure sensor A measures pressure difference across the filter so the engine control module can estimate soot loading and manage regeneration. P2452 sets when the module detects an electrical fault in Sensor A's circuit, making that pressure reading unreliable.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. DPF pressure sensor failed
  2. Sensor sample hoses clogged with soot

Symptoms

  • Check engine light or DPF warning light on
  • Power loss / limp mode
  • Increased fuel consumption
  • Failed forced regeneration attempts

How to diagnose it

  1. Check freeze-frame data, DPF warnings, and Sensor A live data for a missing or implausible pressure reading.
  2. With the engine off, inspect Sensor A's pressure hoses for soot blockage, disconnection, cracking, or kinks.
  3. Inspect the Sensor A connector and wiring for corrosion, damage, loose pins, or heat exposure.
  4. Check the sensor's power, ground, and signal circuit against the manufacturer's wiring diagram and specifications.
  5. If the hoses and wiring are sound but the circuit fault remains, test or replace DPF pressure Sensor A as indicated by the manufacturer's procedure.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect or replace a damaged Sensor A pressure hose.
  • Clear a blocked Sensor A sample hose using the manufacturer's procedure.
  • Repair a damaged connector or circuit wiring.
  • Replace DPF pressure Sensor A if it fails circuit testing.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid ignoring a DPF warning or continuing to drive if the vehicle loses power, because an invalid Sensor A reading can prevent proper regeneration and allow soot to build up. Arrange diagnosis promptly, especially before attempting a forced regeneration.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
