OBD-II fault code

P2368: Cylinder 12 Pressure Sensor Circuit Low

What it means

Cylinder 12 pressure sensor below lower plausibility — short to ground. Wiring faults of this kind typically come from chafing, water ingress at connector seals, or pin push-back — a wiggle test on the harness while the code is active often confirms the location.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

The cylinder 12 pressure sensor reports pressure changes to the engine controller through its signal circuit. P2368 sets when that signal falls below the circuit's expected range, consistent with a signal short to ground or a fault that pulls the reading low.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Sensor signal shorted to ground
  2. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
  3. Harness chafing through insulation

Symptoms

  • Check-engine light
  • Rough running or misfire
  • Reduced engine power
  • Poor acceleration

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and check whether the low cylinder 12 signal appeared at startup, under load, or after vibration or moisture exposure.
  2. View the cylinder 12 sensor signal and related sensor data on a scan tool to confirm the low reading and check whether it is fixed or changes.
  3. Inspect the sensor connector and harness for corrosion, moisture, pushed-back pins, and insulation rubbed through to ground.
  4. With the manufacturer's wiring information, check the signal circuit for an unintended ground and inspect the sensor's ground and supply connections.
  5. Test the cylinder 12 pressure sensor and circuit continuity using the manufacturer's procedure to distinguish a sensor fault from a harness short.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure corroded or loose cylinder 12 sensor connector terminals, and renew damaged seals.
  • Repair the cylinder 12 signal wire where it is chafed or shorted to ground.
  • Repair poor sensor supply or ground connections if testing identifies them.
  • Replace the cylinder 12 pressure sensor if it fails the manufacturer's electrical or functional test.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid hard acceleration and long trips while the engine runs rough or has reduced power. If misfiring becomes severe, stop driving; continued operation can increase emissions and may cause further engine or exhaust damage.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
