OBD-II fault code

P235E: Cylinder 11 Pressure Sensor Circuit Low

What it means

Cylinder 11 pressure sensor below lower plausibility — short to ground. Wiring faults of this kind typically come from chafing, water ingress at connector seals, or pin push-back — a wiggle test on the harness while the code is active often confirms the location.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

The cylinder 11 combustion-pressure sensor sends a signal to the control module so it can assess pressure inside that cylinder. This code sets when the cylinder 11 sensor signal falls below the expected electrical or plausibility range, which can happen if the signal is shorted to ground or the circuit has a poor connection.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Sensor signal shorted to ground
  2. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
  3. Harness chafing through insulation

Symptoms

  • Check-engine light
  • Rough running or misfire
  • Reduced engine power
  • Poor acceleration

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and check the cylinder 11 pressure-sensor reading and related circuit codes.
  2. Inspect the cylinder 11 sensor connector and harness for chafing to ground, moisture, corrosion, or loose pins.
  3. Monitor the sensor signal live while gently moving the harness to check for a change in the low reading.
  4. With the manufacturer's wiring information, test the signal wire for a short to ground and inspect connector contact quality.
  5. Test sensor supply, ground, and signal circuits, then the sensor itself, against the manufacturer's specification.

Common fixes

  • Repair insulation where the cylinder 11 sensor signal wire is shorted to ground.
  • Clean or repair corroded or loose connector terminals.
  • Secure the harness away from grounded or abrasive surfaces.
  • Replace the cylinder 11 pressure sensor if it fails circuit testing.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid hard acceleration if the engine runs roughly or loses power. If the misfire becomes severe, stop driving; ongoing poor combustion can increase emissions and engine stress.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
